Ready to get your Green Labourers Card?

If you need to renew your CSCS Card.

  1. First check that your Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment certificate or other relevant qualification(s) is still valid (in date).

  2. If yes, you can book your HS&E Test (CSCS), which is the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test.

  3. After passing this test, you can then apply for your CSCS card.

  4. However, if your Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment certificate has expired (out of date), you will need to undertake the Level 1 Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (RQF) training and assessment again, and then take the HS&E Test in order to renew your CSCS card.

Why do I need a CSCS Card?

Anyone that works, or wants to work on construction sites will need to have the necessary training and qualifications.
Employers need to ensure the safety and competency of individuals on construction sites. Having a CSCS card shows that you are trained, qualified, and have a satisfactory understanding of the safety needs on sites.

There are many other types of safety cards for the types of job roles and positions found on construction sites. Many people who start their careers in the industry, will start with the ‘Green Labourer’ CSCS Card, and may progress into skilled trades, such as bricklaying or plastering.

Proof of ID requirements

Before taking a CSCS test, make sure you have the correct proof of ID. Read the CITB ID Policy for a complete guide. For further information, go to our CITB HS&E Test ID Requirements page.
